OLA Orphanage, Zawan…

O.L.A Orphanage, Zawan was founded in the mid-sixties(1965) by the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles (O.L.A) to help cater for the ever increasing needs of the orphaned, handicapped and motherless infants and children. The children are admitted from various backgrounds with their unique stories – sometimes with mental and physical challenges. While in the home, the employed staff and the Rev. Sisters become mothers and real friends to the children and the place has an atmosphere of one BIG family.

LOCATION: The Orphanage home is located within the O.L.A. Hospital premises in Zawan, a village near Bukuru in Jos South Local Government of Plateau State.

MISSION STATEMENT: The mission statement of the O.L.A. Orphanage home is to share the love and Joy of Jesus Christ with the abandoned and orphaned. To affirm their dignity and help them develop a sense of responsibility in life.

ACTIVITIES IN THE ORPHANAGE: In order to become self reliant, the children are given Computer lessons and taught to acquire skills in the making of cardigans, beads making, rosaries, flowers, paintings etc. The home is financed through donations from individuals, groups attached to various churches and organizations, companies etc. The staff salaries, hospital bills, school fees, feeding, maintenance of infrastructure, water and light bills, fueling of the vehicle and the generator, etc are accomplished through the assistance of these people. The children who are of school age attend Nursery/Primary/Tertiary institutions.

With the support and interest of many individuals and organisation and the commitment of the OLA Sisters and Staff, the vision of the founding mothers of the institute has been the focus of our work. It is with joy that we resettle so many children yearly with their families. We thank God for the lives of all our Spiritual, moral and financial support groups.
