Who are the OLA Sisters?

The Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles are an International Missionary Congregation founded in 1876 in Lyon, France by Venerable Fr. Augustine Planque, SMA, co-founder and first Superior General of the Society of African Missions (S.M.A). The OLA Sisters arrived in Lagos in 1878. We were founded for the MISSION OF EVANGELIZATION particularly in Africa with special attention to the upliftment of women and children. Today, we are open to new challenges. Do they work only in Nigeria? OLA Sisters from different Countries live and work as missionaries in Algeria, Argentina, Benin Republic, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Canada, Central African Republic Chad, Egypt, France, Ghana, Ireland, Italy, Ivory Coast, Lebanon, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria, Tanzania and Togo. We also live and work in the urban and rural areas of Nigeria: Bauchi, Delta, Edo, FCT Abuja, Bayelsa, Kaduna, Lagos, Niger, Ogun, Oyo and Plateau States.

What apostolates do they engage in?

We share God’s love with all people through our varied ministries: education, medical, social, pastoral works, etc.

Who can become an OLA Sister?

A baptized and confirmed catholic with a strong desire to serve God as a missionary within and outside the country.

What are the basic requirements?

- You must have completed your Secondary School with at least five credits including Mathematics and English Language. Those of tertiary institutions qualifications and professionals are also welcomed.
- You must be matured and aged between 18 and 30 years.
